Marvelous Show by Corey Matsuoka1
Even Pele celebrated '85.
The early January evening
glowed like a sparkler.
Driving to the eruption
the ribboning road
seemed endless.
The dark forms of trees
played hide and seek with the volcano.
Finally, the fountaining licks
of lava
burst into view.
The massive column towered over me,
casting crimson shadows
into the black night.
Only the stars
winking back in acknowledgement.
